Wear Your Bra

6:45am this morning Dixie plops her head on my side of the bed and wags her tail violently as it hits the paper bag behind her. She is up and ready to go potty outside. Still half asleep I decide against putting a bra or shoes on as I go outside. I figure I’ll just take Dixie on the side of the house so nobody sees me and then climb back into bed.

Dixie does her thing and we head inside. Uh-oh… a neighbor from down the street walking her two prized pugs (1/5 the size of my big pup) just past our driveway. Dixie took advantage of my sleepy daze, breaks loose from my hold and runs across the street, play attacking the little guys as their owner mildly freaks out.

I -barefoot, braless, hair all over the place- have no choice but to visit the neighbor across the street and harness my angel of a dog. Classy.

Great way to meet a neighbor first thing in the morning, right?!

IMG_5655 I consoled myself with Kashi Heart to Heart cereal, a banana, cinnamon and a scoop of PB.

Not having an actual day job right now means I get a fruit pop for my mid-morning snack :)

I am still sick from my dairy fiasco this past weekend. My stomach is in so much pain. Today I had a headache, too! So I ate what I wanted and what I knew would be good for me… a Flat Out wrap with PB&J and a green monster… served with a multi.

I snacked on plenty of cereal and edamame throughout the day before hitting the gym at 4pm. My belly troubles kept me from finishing my scheduled 6 mi. run so I instead got in an hour of mixed cardio. It’s amazing how a certain type of food can change the next week of my life so much.

Dinner was fantastic!!

The star ingredient was organic quinoa I picked up at Costco. This 4lb./42-serving bag was about $10. Check out the nutrition facts… this is like a wonder grain!

IMG_5672

Quinoa was super easy to make, too. When done it was so pretty (photo doesn’t do it justice). Each little bit has a swirly stripe.. lol, make it and see for yourself!

IMG_5669

As the quinoa was cooking in a pot I combined garlic, sundried tomatoes, fresh spinach, frozen corn, black beans, low-sodium soy sauce, balsamic vinegar and spices in a skillet. Both the pot and skillet were ready in about 15 minutes. I mixed them together and served!

IMG_5673 This dish was awesome! I am definitely in love with quinoa. It is a bit chewy, full of texture, slightly nutty and all around yummy. Tomorrow I hope to try some in place of my regular oats.

After some tennis with David I enjoyed another fruit pop ;)

And to finish off the post here is Jack.. standing on the scale stealing the last bits of his sister’s food. David and I couldn’t get over the irony!

Goodnight friends! I hope your Wednesday is lovely.

Have you tried quinoa? What is your favorite way to serve grains?

Gmail's Autopilot

Have you heard of Gmail's new Autopilot function?

Seriously, I have fallen hard for every April Fools prank out there. It was only 8 hours later that I realized this was actually a prank. Joke is on Ashley!

Viva la Karaoke

Saturday night I had 10 people in my little apartment for the best night of karaoke, games and food. I had so much fun.

IMG_4250 (Medium)

We had the coolest group, too. See the guy on the left? He came to the states from Belgium yesterday. People from China here, too. I think they all rock. (I'm in the red and David's holding the mug!)

bbgroup

We were SO better than those lame Backstreet Boys!

Believe it or not I did a lot better when a camera wasn’t IN MY FACE! (ya… righttttttt…)

IMG_4245 (Medium)

When I wasn’t standing up dancing I sat here belting out the tunes!

IMG_4257 (Medium)

Just kidding :)

IMG_4219 (Medium)

How cool is this? Totally different from what I’m used to…

IMG_4220 (Medium)

Only some of the food…we also had lots of cookies, the coffee cake….

I made Seven Layer Dip (but with black beans instead of meat- and added lots of taco spices and hot sauce) and it was perfect.

Come over whenever you come to Tampa for some good karaoke times!

Full post coming tonight, but here is a clip from Saturday's karaoke party to tide you over!

Sorry my recording is so shaky! I couldn't keep from laughing!

Lesson Learned

How often do we hear that we should never go to the grocery store hungry?

I've never thought it too big a deal... until last Thursday at work.

I ran to Publix to pick up a few things for the office and I was hungry. On my way to checkout I passed the cookie aisle. I saw a bag of little cookies with the claim "whole wheat" and grabbed them thinking I could have just a few to hold me over.
Yes, the picture is fuzzy. That's because this is I saw when I was hungry!

So I pop open the bag right when I get in the car. Needless to say, a hungry Ashley + open bag of little cookies = a disaster. I ate almost three servings.

I start feeling sick. Ugghhhh.... But now that the hunger has subsided healthy ashley comes back and reads the label.
Whole Wheat! Gotta be good, right?

Sugar-free is for me!

Trans fat? Sugar alcohol?

Umm, we've got a problem. How many artifical sweeteners can you count? And Maltitol is the first ingredient? What?! Isn't Maltitol a sugar alcohol that can have a laxative effect and cause gas and bloating??!!!??!

Laxative Effect.
With three servings I definitely hit the jackpot.
Ooops.

I will never grocery shop (or "nibble") when I'm that hungry. I swear my body revolted against me for the next two days.

Has hunger ever caused you to do something silly (whether you knew the ingredients and warnings or not)?

Upping the Cheese Factor

First off, thank you to everyone who commented on my last post about David's aunt and her recent news. I'll be sure to keep you updated.

In other news I decided today to throw a party this Friday! I had the funniest idea for a theme/game. Here's the email I sent to the invitees:
Let's bring back the good times by re-enacting our favorite (and cheesiest!) shots from old-time movies and TV shows. Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman, Saved by the Bell anyone? Play with dress-up props to snap your best shot in hopes to win. What you win I have no idea, but the fun is all in the journey, right?!

Where:
xxxxxxx (my mom's house!)

When:
2/20, 8pm-whenever!

What:
Photo shoot and a movie. Nosh on homemade pizza and snacks! Let me know if you can bring something to drink!

Why:
Who doesn't need a fun, free Friday night?!

Who:
Me. And you!

PS:
And don't forget you're leather jackets, leotards, wigs....! (and your sense of humor!)

So far I have the following scenes for us to recreate:

Of course I'll have a little 'treasure chest' set up with lots of costumes and props!

Anyone want to come over for a comfy fun Friday night? You're all invited!!
Let me know what other cheesy movies/TV shows we can reenact! Remember: we're all about the cheese level!
