David had some fun plans for us Friday night! We went to Enzian, a full-time, non-for-profit alternative cinema, and their attached restaurant and bar, Eden Bar. Enzian and Eden Bar take “dinner and a movie” to a new level. I was excited to wear my favorite red shoes for our date night :)
We headed to Eden Bar about 1.5 hours before our 9:30pm showing of “It Might Get Loud” to grab some dinner. I was impressed by their unique menu. My favorite part was their “unwavering commitment to quality ingredients, choosing to work with independent businesses, farmers, brewers, and artisans, locally whenever possible.”
We soaked up the laid back, outdoor atmosphere as we studied the menu. I chose the Enzian Herbivore. Our fun waitress assured me it was vegan without the cheese.
Our food took a long time to come out. Our appetites were pretty big so we broke down and had some of their amazing homemade potato chips while waiting. These babies were crispy and simple… with a hint of lime!
I broke down and had to use the flash for my entree :) The side salad was simply greens tossed with balsamic and it was delicious. The burger was good, but definitely didn’t do anything for me. I bet it’s better with the cheese. Usually I oooooo and ahhhhh at my food, but this didn’t garner any of that. The “burger” was pretty much just brown rice with a little bit of spices and mushrooms. It wasn’t in a patty or firm. The rice would be delicious on its own, but served between two carby pieces of bread was just too much for me.
The overall experience at Eden Bar was very good. The creativity of the menu and taste of the salad and homemade chips left me wanting to come back and try something else from their menu.
After dinner we bought our tickets and headed inside the theater. Instead of uncomfortable chairs, Enzian had couches and oversized chair with attached tables. Awesome way to catch a cool film.
Artsy, oversized posters covered the walls. Love it. I described Enzian as “upscale hippie” but David thinks hippie is derogative, so…
We loved the film… or at least the first 45 minute of it! The film unraveled and cut off. We waited for 40 minutes until the manager explained they weren’t going to be able to fix it for several more hours. It’s okay- she gave us some tickets to come back again! And we will definitely be back to Enzian and Eden Bar plenty.

Saturday morning Dixie and I were up bright and early to visit the dog park. She had a blast! Then David and I took a 35 mile bike ride from our house, to Baldwin Park and around the lake I ran Friday’s 15 miler at. I calculated the lake is actually 2.6 miles each lap… so Friday I ran 15.6 miles!
Running 15 miles Friday and biking 35 miles Saturday made me one sleepy and hungry blogger! I didn’t get much sleep, but I did eat plenty :)

Today David and I enjoyed breakfast at home (naner oats for me, of course!) before heading to the Winter Park Autumn Arts Festival. It was fantastic!!
With so many talented artists and people lining up for a look, this place was packed! It was fun looking at all the different forms of art. There were sculptures, sketches, paintings, artwork done with magazine clippings, and so much more…
David got a huge fresh-squeezed lemonade. I couldn’t resist the just-made kettle corn! It’s made with sugar, salt and soybean oil- sounds good to me!
Because I’m, you know, “in training” and all I ordered the largest size they sold. This stuff was addicting. Neither David nor I could keep our hands off the sweet and salty goodness. Oh my.
I’m kind of embarrassed to say it’s pretty much gone. ___________
I’m about to head into the kitchen to tackle something I’ve been too scared of to try before! Enchiladas!
Have any yummy enchilada recipes for me? Any tips for a taco-only cook?
