Odwalla Love + Jen Perez

IMG_4135 I would like to introduce you to heaven. The Odwalla Banana Nut bar. I would have this over the real thing any day.

Odwalla, you fill me up and satisy all my cravings. I <3 href="http://www.odwalla.com/">Odwalla.IMG_4132

I’ve had lots of picky eaters try these bars (don’t like nuts, don’t like bananas, don’t like healthy foods) and they all LOVE this bar.

Here’s another fun interview for you- this time with the great Jen Perez. “ Jen Perez has been a professional triathlete since 2005 and currently competes on the Olympic distant circuit. Jen's career includes All-American honors in triathlon and Honorable Mention Junior Duathlete of the Year three times.” Pretty impressive!

Here it is:

First off, thank you so much for taking some time to do this interview with me. Many readers are athletes or athletes-to-be and I’m sure they will enjoy your story and answers.

Other than a top professional triathlete who competes on the Olympic distant circuit (!!!), can you tell me a little about yourself?

I’ve been a professional triathlete since 2005, a member of Team EAS, and am currently a student at Texas State in San Marcos, TX . I formerly lived in New Orleans, but relocated to Texas following Hurricane Katrina.

Most of my time is spent either sleeping, eating, in school, or training, but of course, I make time for hanging out with friends and winding down.

On your blog (http://www.jen-perez.org/blog/) I read you are still a student. How do you balance training with your academics?

I made my schedule so that I only go to school Tuesdays and Thursdays. This helps with training and studying on the other days, but it takes a lot of scheduling to make everything work.

What do you look for in a favorite post-workout snack? Do you have a favorite?

My post workout eating is dependent upon the workout I had to do. After a tough workout, I like to have EAS Race Recovery and for an easy to moderate workout, I like to take an EAS Myoplex Lite shake or bar. All of these post-workout sports nutrition products have what you need to rebuild after breaking down your body. If I had to pick a favorite flavor, I would have to choose EAS Myoplex Lite Chocolate because who doesn’t like chocolate!

Do you have a favorite EAS product?

EAS Myoplex Lite Chocolate shakes or bars.

My appetite went crazy when I trained for my first half marathon. What are your tips for maintaining a healthy weight when in training?

That’s normal when you start working out. The main thing to remember is to eat constantly, about every two to three hours. Small meals, every few hours, keep your appetite at bay while keeping your energy up.

How do you adjust your diet for your off-season?

Well, I don’t actually adjust my eating very much. My in-season training and my off-season training don’t differ all that much in terms of the time put in. The main difference is just how much hard training effort I exert during that time. In the off-season, my workouts are longer, but not very hard. Your eating should be a habit and a lifestyle.

Is there something other than typical training equipment such as bike, goggles, etc. that helps you with training and competing?

Well, besides the necessary gear -- proper nutrition, regular massages and/or physical therapy, as well as stretching, keep you injury free and on top of your game.

What would you say to someone who is considering tackling their first triathlon?

I would say to have fun! I think it is really important to have a good time while working out. This will keep you wanting to train and keep participating in the sport. No one wants to do something they don’t like doing, so that’s why I say loving what you do is the best advice.

Thanks Jen and EAS!
