Review: Annies Shells & Real Aged Cheddar
After seeing it all over Whole Foods and other blogs, I finally bought myself a box of Annie's Shells & Real Aged Cheddar. Here's my humble review!:
Nutritionals: Surprisingly, the nutritional info isn't too different from our Kraft blue box. Annies only requires you to add milk, but Kraft calls for butter and milk... which leaves Kraft's "Prepared" calories at 410 (Annie's is 280).
The ingredient list is like another world compared to Kraft. With organic wheat shell pasta and a much shorter list, Annie's ingredients puts Kraft to shame!
Taste: It tasted just like Kraft's mac-n-cheese.. just a lot less fake! The noodles didn't taste like wheat and the cheese actually tasted like a cheddar cheese sauce. This dish didn't taste "healthy." It was sooooooooo tasty. I ate a bunch of it and didn't feel like I just swallowed a chemical plant.
Usability: This could be a side dish or a main meal with a few simple additions. I see this goodness and picture all of the mix-ins you could use. I made myself a big bowl with some frozen peas mixed in and drizzles of organic ketchup on top. You could also add broccoli, tuna.. you get the idea!
Other: Annie's box is mader from 100% recycled paper fiber. They also use renewable energy. That rocks!
Overall: Annie's Shells & Real Aged Cheddar is a fun, healthy food. This is great for people who want a yummy comfort food without paying for it in bad ingredients and tons of fat. I say EAT IT!... just maybe not every day!
** After writing this post I went to Target and stocked up. I'm serving a big box with peas mixed in and veggie burgers on the side for dinner Friday! Yumm!
